March 5 NBA – Latest Betting News and Tips
With the arrival of March, we are getting ever closer to NBA Playoff time. Here is a look at some of the biggest stories as we head down the stretch.
Dallas Mavericks are Star-Crossed
The Dallas professional basketball franchise has seemingly done everything possible it could to keep fans away. It started with the trading of Luka Doncic, followed by irate ownership singling out fans who would choose to speak out about their displeasure at a Mavs game and made moves to silence them.
Possibly Dallas does this every year, but announcing season ticket prices in March this year makes you tone-deaf. (Or Bill Rafferty’s word: “Onions”) Following that up with paying for 41 games at an 8 to 10 percent increase would save you money compared to buying on the secondary market. Of course, that market doesn’t sell season packages.
Then the clincher, Kyrie Irving tore his ACL Monday and is done until sometime next season. With 20 games remaining and those numerous Mavs players still on the IL, it makes sense for the Mavericks to tank, secure the best draft choice they can, and start fresh next October.
The betting lines on Dallas won’t be kind, but for wagering purposes the Mavs are Pass or Fade the remainder of the season.
Charlotte’s Historic Futility
The Charlotte Hornets losing and not covering isn’t going to lift the head of any fan or basketball bettor working on the next day’s games. Starting on Feb. 9, the Hornets embarked on a nine-game road trip. It was divided into three contests before the All-Star break and six afterward. Giving Charlotte a week back home made it tolerable.
Despite just one victory in the first five outings, Charlotte was at least 2-2-1 ATS. Then it collapsed in epic fashion. With three road games in four days from Feb. 22-25, here were the scores.
At Portland – Lost 141-88 as +6 underdogs
At Sacramento – Lost 133-80 as +11 underdogs
At Golden State – Lost 128-92 as +17.5 underdogs
Combined, the Hornets lost their last three games by 131 points. That is, by far, the worst three-game stretch in NBA history according to Stathead. Though we couldn’t find an answer, we safely assume failing to cover the spread by 107.5 points is also a record in a trio of tilts.
Well done Charlotte!

Central Division and Playoff Battles Ahead
In the Eastern Conference. Cleveland, Boston, and New York are in good shape as one, two, and three seeds.
The next three teams are all in the Central Division and it is up for grabs.
At this time, Milwaukee and Indiana are tied, with the Bucks holding the tiebreaker currently. Detroit is just two games back and surging at 10-1 (9-1-1 ATS). And it’s not like the co-division leaders are playing poorly, with Milwaukee at 7-1 (6-1-1 ATS) and the Pacers at 6-2 (5-3 ATS).
Looking ahead in the division and playoff seeds 4 to 6, we found the Pacers and Pistons finished playing each other.
Indiana has a home and home later this month with Milwaukee, which will be big. Though the Pacers have two games with Cleveland, they are the third from last and last contests of the regular season. Chances are the Cavs will hardly be interested and Indy catches a break.
Milwaukee has the hardest division remaining setup. Besides a pair with Indy, they have a home and home with the Pistons. Get this, that is the last two games of the season for both teams. Imagine what those games might mean!
Crazy System to Follow the Rest of the Season
Watch for favorites after just losing outright as a favorite to the same opponent. These clubs are 39-8-2 ATS, 82.9%.
