College Football Bowls Dec. 27-28
The bowl season continues and we have the latest Line Moves and news on college football for a big weekend of action. Follow along and check out our Free Picks which have been great at 61-41 ATS this season.
CFB – (231) Georgia Tech vs. (232) Vanderbilt Total 51.5
Friday, December 27 – 3:30 p.m. ET / ESPN
Birmingham Bowl – This matchup finds Georgia Tech weakened more overall by the transfer portal than Vanderbilt. Both teams like to line up, be physical, and lean in on their opponent trying to wear them down. Besides the style of play, one other reason to watch this bowl is that each will have its own quarterback. That would be Haynes King for the Yellow Jackets and Diego Pavia for the Commodores and both are excellent at making things happen when plays break down. We’re guessing the transfers and style of play helped push the total from 54.5 to 51.5, but we like the QBs and see enough big plays coming.
Bet Percentage: UNDER 63%
Doug’s Pick – Lean Over
CFB – (239) Texas A&M vs. (240) USC +3.5
Friday, December 27 – 10:30 p.m. ET / ESPN
Las Vegas Bowl – Ultimately, Texas A&M might have produced a modestly disappointing season at 8-4, but it wasn’t in the same atmosphere as USC at 6-6. The Trojans could have made the CFP if all their games had ended once they had a fourth quarter lead. USC was ahead in the final quarter in their first 11 games, yet managed to lose five of them. With the Men of Troy’s losses at running back and wide receiver, they’ve grown from +1 to +3.5 point underdogs. The Aggies’ offense is largely intact and they should have success against a good, not great, USC run defense. We’ll side with the more trustworthy Aggies.
Bet Percentage: Texas A&M 54%
Doug’s Pick – Texas A&M covers
CFB – (241) Connecticut vs. (242) North Carolina -3.5, Total 52.5
Saturday, December 28 – 12:00 p.m. ET / ESPN
Fenway Bowl – Though the Green Monster won’t impact the Fenway Bowl, it will be noticed. What football bettors were seeing is that favored North Carolina is down two points to -3.5 over Connecticut and the total has crumbled four digits to 52.5. With a coaching change for the Tar Heels, it’s hard to imagine many Tar Heels fans are excited about going to Boston unless they want to visit the park or have some “chowdaw”. For UConn, it’s not nearly as far and one can assume a nice turnout of Huskies fans after another winning season at 8-4. The total falling is about UConn without their QB and the Heels without 73% of the run game with no RB Omarion Hampton. Let’s fly with the more fired-up Eagles and a lower score with too much offense missing.
Bet Percentage: North Carolina 58% & UNDER 67%
Doug’s Pick – Boston College covers, Lean Under
CFB – (247) Iowa State vs. (248) Miami-FL -3.5, Total 55.5
Saturday, December 28 – 3:30 p.m. ET / ABC
Pop Tarts Bowl – Not sure if there was a natural assumption that Miami QB Cam Ward would not play, but it’s hard to come up with many other reasons why the Hurricanes would be flipped from +1 to -3.5. This point is further substantiated by the total lifted two points to 55.5. With Miami conceding 28 points or more in half of their contests and the Cyclones coughing up 28 or more in four of their last seven outings, the OVER should be popping up like Pop Tarts out of the toaster. Each team lost their last game and should be motivated. If Ward hung around, it’s hard to imagine he won’t have his teammates ready to play.
Bet Percentage: Miami 58% covers & 91% OVER
Doug’s Pick – Bet OVER, Lean Miami
CFB – (249) Miami-O vs. (250) Colorado State Total 40.5
Saturday, December 828 – 4:30 p.m. ET / CW Network
Arizona Bowl – This is the orphan of bowl games, not on the ESPN radar for years, and on its third different network or streaming service in four years. The matchup isn’t worse than other minor bowls and features the MAC runner-up Miami-O. The RedHawks are up against a good Colorado State crew this was 8-4. The Rams are modestly better on offense; however, Miami has the edge on defense and this total has tumbled three points to 40.5. The adjusted number looks correct, but we’ll call for the Miami-O to force a turnover or two and win 24-20 for the OVER.
Bet Percentage: OVER 61%
Doug’s Pick – Play OVER
CFB – (289) Louisiana Tech vs. (290) Army -17
Saturday, December 28 – 9:15 p.m. ET / ESPN
Independence Bowl – Sun Belt champion Marshall opted out of playing in this bowl game with portal departures. This happened becaus the university didn’t want to pay the head coach for a well-done job. He left and took several players with him to Southern Miss, transforming the Thundering Herd into a whimper herd. Louisiana Tech at 5-7 gets the invite instead and travels in-state over to Shreveport. The Bulldogs will face the AAC champs who are in a bad mood despite its championship. The Army won the title but couldn’t muster the same emotion for the Navy a week later and was handled easily. There is no way the Black Knights squad take anything for granted and bettors agreed, moving Army from -14 to -17. Though the Techsters are a respectable #31 against the run, look for the nation’s #1 run offense to run roughshod in the matchup.
Bet Percentage: Army 58%
Doug’s Pick – Army covers
