College Football Week 9 Early Lines Moves

Is it already the last weekend in October already? It’s crazy to think it was Week 0 two months ago. We have this week’s largest line moves that include a Top 25 matchup where the favorite is sinking. Make sure to return Friday for the free picks that are solid 33-21 (61.1%).

The fact that Akron (1-6 SU and ATS) went from +5.5 to +3 playing host to Eastern Michigan signifies sharp action because this is not a matchup on everyone’s radar. The Zips are not going to win out to be bowl-eligible. The Eagles on the other hand will play in a bowl with a victory at 6-2, and they are one of a half dozen clubs in the MAC that is 2-1, still having a shot to reach the conference title tilt with the new format. Akron has won four of the last six meetings as host, dating back to 2000, however, Eastern Mich. was four straight (2-0-2 ATS).

Having started play in Week 0 in what seemed like a big upset of then #10 Florida State, this will be Georgia Tech’s ninth contest before we reach November. The Yellow Jackets play a physical brand of football and played better than the score showed versus #11 Notre Dame, ultimately falling 31-13. Virginia Tech got back over .500 by doubling up Boston College 42-21 last week. Football bettors definitely believe there is nothing hokey about the Hokies, shifting them two points to -11 over the Rambling Wreck. Watch who controls the line of scrimmage when Virginia Tech has the ball, with the Hokies at #19 in rushing and Georgia Tech at #27 stopping the run.

If Notre Dame thought they might have a real shot to make the new playoffs, they would have never guessed two of their remaining toughest matchups would be against Navy and Army (both unbeaten and ranked), rather than Florida State and USC. Yet, that appears as the circumstances and the Midshipmen are drawing support, dropping anchor from +13.5 to +11.5 against the Fighting Irish. Far and away the biggest line movement on total is on the encounter, with the total surging SEVEN points from 45 to 52. The Middies are a surprising 13-10 ATS (4-19 SU) in this annual affair. You might not know Navy is #4 both rushing and scoring this season.

Both these squads are 3-4. That is truly disappointing for Oklahoma State who was a true Big 12 contender to start the year. The Cowboys are 0-4 (1-3 ATS) in conference play and look no further than having the #129 club in total defense as to why. Baylor ended a three-game losing streak in upsetting Texas Tech 59-35 in Lubbock catching five points and might need to win to save coach Dave Aranda’s job. The Bears opened at -4 and clawed their way to -6.5. Interesting to know the visitor is on a 4-1 SU and ATS move.

Nothing says exciting ACC football like Wake Forest traveling to Stanford? (Yes, we’re joking.) Nevertheless, it is no joke the total has tumbled from 56 to 54. Both defenses are conceding better than 32 PPG, however, then you have to consider the offenses. The Cardinal are averaging an unsightly 18.9 PPG while the Demon Deacons are hit-and-miss. Wake has tallied 30 or more points in four games and their three other conflicts are at 23 points or fewer. With Stanford 8-1 UNDER after allowing 6.25 or more yards a play in their previous game, will that hold up again?
