The NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship has evolved into the biggest betting event in the country. March Madness has become part of the fabric of our society and in addition to office pools and million dollar brackets, there is a ton of betting on college basketball in March and early April. Fellow analyst Doug Upstone and I take a look at the upcoming Madness and pick some teams that are worth a future bet. Remember, as the brackets are released and the first two round are played, these same teams will have much shorter odds to be crowned NCAA Champion.
It’s hard to talk about this year’s NCAA tournament, without mentioning the Houston Cougars. Sure, the odds are a bit short, heading into the tourney, but they are a 29-win team, that has shown they can go outside the conference and beat other high-caliber teams. this team plays at a high tempo and is one of the better defensive teams in the nation. The Cougars are second in opponent’s field goal percentage and they really can put pressure on perimeter shooters. They are relentless on the offensive glass and tend to wear down opposing teams. Houston is the complete package and is going to be a tough out for any team they are facing in the Big Dance.
A longer shot at much better odds is a team that struggled during the regular season, but has come together late – Duke. The Blue Devils were on Doug’s radar as a future bet at 50-1 to win it all in the NCAA Tournament, when the video below was posted. Duke went on to win the ACC Tournament yesterday and they are still 29-1 at FanDuel and other leading sportsbooks!
