Jan. 22 NBA – Latest Betting News and Tips
Last week we talked about Cleveland and Oklahoma City as the top layer in the NBA and Detroit is showing signs their long nightmare might finally be ending.
This week the talk will revolve around those below the highest level who are making moves and if you as an NBA bettor should check these teams out for Play On possibilities.
Bucks and Pacers Are Climbing
Just a few weeks ago the Knicks were running right with Boston for the #2 spot in the Eastern Conference. Sure, it’s too early to worry about
conference seeding just one stride past the midpoint of the season, but there are developments. Since New York’s lengthy winning streak, they have dumped six of 10, which created an opportunity for Milwaukee and Indiana to move up and they seized the moment.
The Bucks got off to a horrific 2-8 start. Their reshuffled roster still had familiar faces like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, Bobby Portis, and Brook Lopez, yet, there was a complete lack of continuity on either end of the floor. It looked and felt like Doc Rivers might not make it a calendar year in the Brew City.
However, credit Rivers for tinkering with the pieces searching for the right combinations. The Bucks have moved right behind the Knicks in winning seven of eight (6-2 ATS). Milwaukee doesn’t appear to have NBA Finals capabilities, yet, for wagering purposes, their outlook is better. We’ll have a better idea of who this squad is when they play seven of eight away games starting Jan. 25.
Indiana started alright, then on Nov. 13 they lost their balance and couldn’t get up. The imperfect storm of injuries and player slumps sent the Pacers into a face plant like a UFC fighter knocked out by a kick to the side of his face. Indy went 4-9 SU and instead of looking like the club of the future to close last season, they appeared very overrated. Backers were sent reeling as the Pacers went 1-11-1 ATS and felt like those that bought the ‘ack tuah girl meme coins’.
Nevertheless, like Rivers, Indiana’s Rick Carlisle is a veteran coach, never panicked and found workaround ways for the injuries and now Indiana is right behind Milwaukee as the #5 seed, riding a 9-2 SU and ATS surge. Indiana could stay hot if not swept in Paris with two meetings with San Antonio this weekend.
Denver Starting to Climb
Going up and down the Rocky Mountains is a popular activity for people living in Colorado. Almost two years removed from their NBA title, the Denver Nuggets are climbing up the Western Conference standings.
By virtue of a 12-5 move (10-7 ATS), the Nuggets are #4 in the West and as of this writing are just two back of catching Houston for #2. For
Denver, everything starts with Nikola Jokic.
With Nuggets owners unwilling to pay for a good bench, when the Joker and Jamal Murray are not on the floor, the Nuggets’ offensive productivity suffers. Coach Mike Malone is a creative type and figured out how to use Russell Westbrook off the bench. He uses Westbrook more when he’s contributing and as a minutes-eater for a starter when he’s not. The return of Aaron Gordon adds that other rebounder this club needs. It is hard to see a deep playoff run for Denver without a better bench, but as long as they are not overpriced favorites, the Nuggies are worth a look-see.
If you Like to Bet OVERs, These Outfits Fit the Bill
Memphis
The Grizzlies are running better than a 2-to-1 pace on OVERs for the season. Memphis is the top-scoring team in the NBA. The Grizz are #5 in offensive efficiency, but their success comes in other ways for astute bettors. Memphis is #2 in offensive rebounds, #2 in fouls committed, and #1 in free throw attempts which is a large number of dead ball points on the last two numbers. Add in they are #2 in turnovers, which provides opposing team point opportunities, and #5 in turnovers generated, this makes sense.
Chicago and Utah are Next
The Bulls and Jazz are the other two squads that post larger totals just over 60 percent of the time. In each instance, defense is an afterthought or something you are supposed to do after taking a shot for both teams. Chicago is next to last in points surrendered and Utah is #26. We can only surmise the head coaches of these two franchises look at their rosters and decide offense is their best chance to win and defense is something to hope happens now again.
